Integrated Reference Design For Automotive Camera Systems
Design features Renesas’ Automotive HD Link (AHL) technology and OmniVision’s OX01F10 1.3MP SoC to deliver low cost and high quality videos
For object recognition functionality, the importance of HD video is essential in car safety systems. Not just do they help in avoiding collisions with other vehicles in high-density traffic, but also prevent accidents in poor lighting conditions.
Therefore, Renesas Electronics Corporation in collaboration with OmniVision Technologies has developed an integrated reference design for a High Definition automotive camera system. It features Renesas’ Automotive HD Link (AHL) technology that transmits a high-definition video over low-cost cables and connectors. The AHL technology is coupled with OmniVision’s compact OX01F10 1.3MP SoC, which provides high-quality imaging across a wide range of challenging lighting conditions while consuming low power.
The RAA279971 AHL encoder and RAA279972 decoder use a modulated analogue signal for video transmission that has 10x lower transmission rates than generally required for HD signals. This means that unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cables and standard low-cost connectors can be used along with existing traditional analogue video cables and connectors. AHL can also be paired with other Renesas products, such as the R-Car Automotive SoCs, RH850 MCUs, automotive PMICs and analogue components to cost-effectively implement numerous safety features in any vehicle.
OmniVision’s OX01F10 SoC integrates a high performance 3.0-micron image sensor and an advanced image signal processor (ISP) with its proprietary PureCelPlus technology for low noise, thus delivering excellent low-light performance and ultra-low power at a reduced cost for the automotive rearview camera (RVC) and surround view system (SVS).

The sensor features ASIL-B, which targets cost-effective solutions, along with the most compact form factor and lowest power consumption,” said Michael Wu, Senior Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing at OmniVision. “This reference design with Renesas takes that concept further by pairing with another high-quality, economical solution.”
The new reference design is now available through both Renesas Sales and OmniVision Sales.
The reference design will be demonstrated at OmniVision’s booth # 15 at the AutoSens Brussels 2021 Exhibition, September 15-16.
